Laura Ash received a BS in Spanish from Georgetown University in 1984, and a teaching certificate in music education from the University of Washington in 1990, focusing on choral direction and piano, having studied piano privately for 15 years in her childhood. She has taught piano off and on for the last 25 years, both in Seattle and in Mukilteo.
Laura is the Music Director at St. Patrick Parish in Seattle, and has composed, along with her husband David, three albums of liturgical music, a series of music for Advent Lessons and Carols, and many other liturgical songs and psalms. Laura and David also have songs published with Oregon Catholic Press, and have composed music for many liturgical movement offerings of liturgical dancer Betsey Beckman’s The Dancing Word Series.
In 2013 Laura was the co-composer with David of the musical “Grace on the Margins”, a social justice musical exploring the pressing issues of our time, produced by the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center. Her current project is a collection of music based on women mystics and prophets of our time.
As well as directing music at St. Patrick’s, Laura is a singer in the Seattle Symphony Chorale, which performs regularly with the Seattle Symphony.
