LGBTQ+ Engagement and Accompaniment

Mission Statement

The LGBTQ+ Engagement and Accompaniment Team will help bring understanding and dialogue inside the St. Pat’s community on LGBTQ+ issues, and will plan and direct outreach projects to build bridges between St Patrick Church and the LGBTQ+ community at large.

Goals:
The Team will include LGBTQ+ members and non-LGBTQ+ members. Its purpose is to authentically represent our identity as a place where everyone is welcome, and that “we don’t just say it, we live it”. We intend to address five goals:
 

1. To increase parish awareness of our LGBTQ+ members;
2. To educate ourselves about the issues that are keeping LGBTQ+ Catholics on the periphery of our church;
3. To make connections with other organizations that work with the LGBTQ+ community, and when possible work with these organizations to improve our awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community;
4. To remain alert for opportunities to engage in just action to address those issues;
5. To provide social interaction opportunities for all members of St. Patrick’s church with the LGBTQ+ community.

Proposed actions:
 

1. Encourage more parish members to join the LGBTQ+ Outreach and Accompaniment Team
2. Co-sponsor community events with other organizations
3. Advertise in and write articles for Seattle Gay News and other news outlets
4. Build a bridge with the Archbishop/Archdiocese

 

1. Start with the tragic vulnerability of gay teens to homelessness and suicide
2. Consider book studies and informed speakers for presentations

  As we develop relationships and understand requirements, we will:

1. partner with local service providers
2. show up and listen
3. look for opportunities to serve
